Acupunture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a system of medicine originating in Asia that uses very fine, sterile, single-use needles to stimulate energetic meridians and acupoints to balance the Qi and blood in your body, leading to better health. Qi flowing incorrectly can cause blockages, such as poor blood circulation in the affected area. It is a Holistic treatment and may also include Heat Therapy, Cupping, Tui Na massage and Electro-Acupuncture, all of which will be explained by Andrea.
Before any course of acupuncture, Andrea will conduct a full medical history and use other Traditional East Asian diagnostic techniques of pulse and tongue diagnosis as well as Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage). This provides the information needed to create an effective treatment plan that is bespoke to you. Loose clothing is advised to provide access to above knee and elbow areas. Andrea uses Tui Na massage in combination with acupuncture, especially for releasing tension and Musculo-Skeletal symptoms.
What is Tui Na?
Tui Na massage originated in ancient China and based on traditional Chinese medicine is believed to be the oldest system of bodywork. It’s one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Tui Na is based on the theory that imbalances of Qi/Vital Life force/Prana or Energy, can cause blockages or imbalances that lead to symptoms such as pain and illness. Tui Na massage stimulates the flow of Qi to remove the energetic blocks that are causing Qi stagnation, to promote balance and harmony within the body using many of the same principles of acupuncture the goal of which is to create harmony in the Yin and Yang of the body by getting rid of blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues.
